How we get your personal information and why we collect it
All of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following purposes:
- to register for and attend consortium activities, events, capacity development and training opportunities; and
- to receive updates about consortium activities, events, capacity development and training opportunities, and research outputs;
- to send marketing communications in relation to similar consortium activities, events, capacity development and training opportunities;
- to provide feedback on consortium activities, events, capacity development and training opportunities, and research outputs;
- to apply for consortium award schemes.
We may share your personal data with a limited number of existing approved third-party mailing platform providers, including Microsoft, Eventbrite and WordPress who will act as data processors and only process personal data in accordance with our instructions.
Lawful basis for processing
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on for processing this information is:
- Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time by unsubscribing from our communications, or e-mailing us at [email protected]
How we store your personal information
Your information is securely stored within approved systems at the University of Birmingham and Newcastle University, and/or within a secure, access-controlled third-party mailing platforms as referred to above, with appropriate safeguards in place.
We will hold your personal data for the duration of the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium, or until you withdraw your consent (whichever occurs first).
Upon expiry or termination of the NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium or your withdrawal of consent, your information will be securely deleted and/or removed from mailing systems and any associated records within a reasonable timeframe, in line with institutional data disposal policies.

It is not mandatory to supply this special category data and if you do not wish to supply this data you can select “prefer not to say”. This information will be used to monitor the diversity of applicants and ensure fair and inclusive selection processes. Additionally, we will use anonymised and aggregated data derived from these categories to demonstrate and report on the success and impact of the programme, including reporting on diversity and equity, and inclusion outcomes. This anonymised data will not identify any individual.

- via your application form to apply for a consortium award scheme
- to register you as PPIE member and to pay you for your time
We collect this information for the purposes of making decisions on capacity development scheme awards or to record you as a PPIE member and pay you for your time. We may also use this to monitor outcomes during or following the completion of a capacity development award.
We may share this information with
- Our Directorate team, who are based in the UK at Newcastle University and the University of Birmingham.
- A limited number of existing approved third-party mailing platform providers, including Microsoft, Eventbrite and Wordpress who will act as data processors and only process personal data in accordance with our instructions.
- Other relevant third parties:
- Panel members who will review capacity development applications
